Sound solutions

  • Warn your neighbours that you are undertaking noisy work- particularly major building projects.
  • Work during normal waking hours - although daytime is officially 07.00 - 19.00, not many people will welcome the sound of power tools to accompany breakfast.
  • Carry out the noisiest tasks in the middle of the day - if you must start early, do quieter jobs first, but get the really noisy work over before the end of the day.
  • Keep tools well maintained/sharpened.
  • Use lower/quieter settings on power tools where feasible.
  • Use hand tools where possible - you'll save energy as well as reducing noise.

DIY

DIY jobs take many forms -

  • drilling and hammering - especially party walls
  • decorating (scraping and sanding)
  • building - noisy plant, machinery
  • floor sanding
  • car repairs

These can all take their toll on neighbours and the rest of the household.
