Sound solutions
- Ensure you choose a reliable product and supplier.
- Have your house alarm properly installed and serviced regularly (every 12 months, or as recommended).
- Ensure it has a 20 minute cut out that works.
- Register a key holder for your intruder alarm with your local authority who can be contacted if you are away if the alarm misfires. Local authorities in England have the power to insist on registration if they choose to enforce the Clean Neighbourhoods Act 2005.
- Warning: If the local authority has to force entry to your home to disable an alarm, they can charge you for the costs.
House alarms - what's the problem?
Increasing numbers of homes are fitted with intruder alarms, smoke alarms and fire alarms. The purpose of these is to get attention - however if they go off accidentally, they can be a source of serious disturbance.
